Best in Books

1. Best Book You Read In 2014?

Ahhh, to pick just one? Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is my pick then.

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Burn by Julianna Baggott was my biggest disappointment. I finally get my hands on the third installment of the Pure series and I was completely let down.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014?

The Saga graphic novel series, I knew I would like the series but was blown away by how much I sheer loved it.

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014?

A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan… I think I annoyed the heck out of a lot of people to read this.

5. Best series you started in 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?

Best series I started, A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan.

Best Sequel: World After by Susan Ee.

I didn’t have a good series ender, I was massively disappointed by all of the enders I read! (I’m talking about you Allegiant and Burn).

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2014?

Malinda Lo!

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blacke. I normally don’t do horror and reading it was out of my zone but so worth it.

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Angelfall by Susan Ee! I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did but I devoured it in 1 night.

9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

The His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2014?

I must say that I adored the Fangirl cover, it’s simple and geeky.

11. Most memorable character of 2014?

Penryn from Angelfall!

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2014?

The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J. K. Rowling.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2014?

I thought Skin of the Wolf was thought-provoking, it wasn’t life changing at all, that would be Fangirl, but it was most certainly thought-provoking.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2014 to finally read?

Angelfall by Susan Ee, I mention her book a lot, I know.

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014?

I don’t think I had one, or if I did, I don’t remember it…

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2014?

Shortest: Creep by Kevin Hammond

Longest: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling

17. Book That Shocked You The Most

Fangirl! By far, it wasn’t the most twisty book but how the character dealt with drama certainly resonated with me and shocked me a bit.

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)

AHHH! Ash and Kaisa the Huntress in Ash by Malinda Lo, I will go down for this ship!

Lady Trent and Dagmira in A Natural History of Dragons

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2014 From An Author You’ve Read Previously

Uhhhh, World After by Susan Ee.

21. Best Book You Read In 2014 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

Saga by Brian Vaughn and Fiona Staples.

22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2014?

Penryn from Angelfall! Such a huge crush on her.

23. Best 2014 debut you read?

Did I read a 2014 debut? I don’t think I have… I am hardly current with the book world. I read what I feel like and I’m not one to wait around for something to come out.

24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

The Magicians by Lev Grossman was pretty good that way.

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Ash by Malinda Lo. I know I mention this a lot but y’all don’t get it. I never, ever, ever read LGBTQ characters in books, they just never come up and lo and behind, my surprise when the main character of this book is showing some lesbian feelings? Can you imagine my sheer delight to read a fantasy driven LGBTQ book? And by accident too?! This made my night, I smiled the entire time reading this and ran to work the next day screaming to my coworkers because I was so excited. Ash wasn’t some tortured soul, she just… was, and that is so refreshing.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2014?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling as per usual.

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

Goblin Fruit by Laini Taylor.
