When Do You Find Time To Read?

Hi there everyone, now and then you’ll see some random posts on Saturdays and what not about different things happening in my life, they may be about books and they may not, just a warning there. This Tag is called In The Flesh (because it’s about real life, yinno? Get it?), and it’s just about personal quarries, trials and sometimes, funny cautionary tales.

So it’s 8AM and I’m scarfing down some breakfast before the chaos of the day starts, gotta love work! You could say that I am fairly exhausted for various reasons but I’ve had something weighing on my chest and I need to come clean: I haven’t read in nearly a week.

I’ve got the type of job that you wake up hoping for 11PM to come quickly so that you can go back to bed, about when it hits, you’re either still working or thinking about work or devising what to do at work the next day. I’m in my 20s man, I can’t keep this up! And to make matters worse, it takes me away from my reading + crafty pursuits (I quilt, did you know that? I didn’t say well, so don’t get too excited). I haven’t read in a while, I’m stuck. I love the books I’m reading, I want to get back to them! I can hear them calling, crying softly for me but alas, I have to shove them under a pillow and say, “10 more minutes…”

Lately I’ve tried to read right before bed, purposefully walking away from stuff an hour or two early, and settling in to read. What happens? I either fall asleep or I read so much that the next day at work I’m worse than a Zombie. Those flesh-eaters aint got nothin’ on me when I’m in that state. So instead of whining too much today (The In The Flesh Series may feature a great deal of whining, my apologies), I want to make this about yall, I want to ask:

When do you find time to read? And how?

I read on the public bus when I travel, or at night when theres nothing nice to watch on TV.

I probably shouldn’t even answer this because it has the potential to make ya’ll hate me, but I’m gonna go for it anyway. I homeschool my youngest kidlet. We make reading time a big priority. I’m VERY lucky that way.

Reading before bed is my favorite though. I try to keep it to a reasonable time, I know well what it’s like to look up and think OH HELL i’ts 2am!

I think it’s great that you homeschool your child, that’s something that i think is great that you’re fortunate to do! And how lucky is your kid to be able to read so much? Totally jealous. Totally.

Yeah I have a lot of those 2AM moments, but they make me feel so lowsy the next day 😦 I need a balance!

Those late nights are killer 😦 I’ve tried giving myself a cut off time but usually I read until I can’t keep my eyes open.

I am lucky enough to be a “stay-at-home” right now, so I have a ton of free time to read. It also helps that my kids are at the age where they pretty much do their own thing around the house. As much as I would love to have a part-time job to get me out of the house a few days a week, I love that I have lots of time to read.
